Player of the Month – October 2023

It’s time for our monthly piece once again, and as you know, we’re trying to make it nice and simple.

Each week, you rate the players after a game. With that in mind, we can produce a top three, a best performance, a worst performance, and a single standout performance. Last season, we included a lot of stats, but we’re watering them down a little and instead focusing on your ratings, with the odd stat thrown in for good measure.

In October, we played seven fixtures, one in the EFL Trophy and six in the league. We scored seven goals, conceded seven, and amassed seven points. We won twice in the league and once in the cup, suffering three league defeats.

Sa 07Oct 2023 Peterborough 2 – 0 Lincoln
Tu 10Oct 2023 Lincoln 2 – 0 Wolves U21
Sa 14Oct 2023 Lincoln 0 – 1 Burton
Sa 21Oct 2023 Fleetwood 0 – 1 Lincoln
Tu 24Oct 2023 Lincoln 3 – 1 Charlton
Sa 28Oct 2023 Exeter 1 – 1 Lincoln
Tu 31Oct 2023 Lincoln 0 – 2 Oxford

Oh, we also lost a manager. Forgot about that.

Anyway, who were our top performers?

3rd – Adam Jackson (6.82)

Here’s a stat that may have escaped your attention – Adam Jackson played six of our seven matches in October. You know, the Adam Jackson that everyone said can’t play Saturday / Tuesday. Well, he has, and he’s done it well.

He was your Man of the Match on Tuesday night, and he’s been solid and dependable all month. Bear in mind, in 2020/21, he had played six times in the league by Halloween, the following season nine times (but not in the cup), and last season eight. This season, he’s already on 13 matches.

2nd – Ethan Hamilton (6.90)

When the song ‘We’ve got Ethan in the middle’ first came out, I’m pretty sure it was about Ethan Erhahon, but in recent weeks, when I sing it, it is about our signing from Accrington Stanley. He’s been strong this month, earning Man of the Match in our first post-Kennedy game against Fleetwood Town. I felt he was a strong shout for the same on Tuesday as well, and he does seem to drive standards.

We’ve made a lot of good signings over the past few seasons, but I think he might be about the best thus far.

1st – Alex Mitchell (7.13)

Alex Mitchell has take three Man of the Match awards during a tough month for the Imps, and turned in some powerful defensive displays. His best outing was against Charlton, but he also stood out against Fleetwood and Wolves Under 21s.

His form, coupled with Adam Jackson’s fitness, has forced Sean Roughan back into the left back slot, which I think underlines how well the Millwall loanee is doing at Sincil Bank.

Next Page – The best and worst matches, plus the standout performance of the month.
