Press in Northampton is reporting that the Imps’ clash with the Cobblers a week on Saturday has been postponed due to international call-ups.

The Northampton Chronicle says the September 7th clash has been called off due to call-ups within the Imps squad, which is very interesting. International announcements have not been made yet, but it poses the question of who has been called up.

The season’s first international break will occur in the week commencing September 2, and it is reported that ‘multiple’ members of the Lincoln squad are being selected to represent their country. EFL rules state that clubs with three or more call-ups can reschedule league matches. However, there are stipulations.

Under current rules, a club can request a postponement if three or more first-team squad members are called up at any combination of full, under-21, under-20, or under-19 levels. However, underage players must have been involved in 25% of their club’s games during the current season or included on three of their last five match-day team sheets.

It’s highly likely that Sean Roughan will have been selected at some level for Ireland, but who else? Dylan Duffy is possible, although it is debatable whether he’ll get a call-up for Ireland while the subject of a betting investigation. JJ McKiernan is a Northern Ireland Under 212 international, so it could be those three.

Erik Ring, with Swedish Under 21 honours, wouldn’t qualify as he hasn’t played as yet, so who else might be involved? Do we have some fresh call ups? Tendayi Darikwa has represented Zimbabwe, but not since 2020, and Reeco Hackett’s St Lucia call up isn’t likely to happen given he is still injured.

Jack Moylan is a possibility, but at 22 it would surely be a full Ireland pick, which would seem quite a jump, given he hasn’t played at a lower age for his country.

Could it be that Scotland have spotted Ethan Erhahon’s ability? Along with Duffy and Roughan that would be the common pick, and he has played up to Under 21 level for his club. That would be hugely exciting for City.

Whoever it is, it means I am now on an all-dayer at the Badlands Punk Festival at the Drill Hall, rather than just turning up for the amazing headline acts.
