Lincoln City Hat Tricks Of The 21st Century

Jovon Makama’s hat trick against Bristol Rovers was the 20th time a player has scored three or more goals in a game since the turn of the century.

That’s 20 without including FA Trophy games and Lincolnshire Senior Cup matches, and some of those have been a little more memorable than others. I was just going to do a quiz on them, but as I’ve cleared my afternoon’s schedule by throwing my van awning away in a strop, I thought I’d put together a quick list of the occasions a player has scored three (or more) goals for the Imps since the year 2000.

As I said, I’m excluding FA Trophy matches and friendlies, just focusing on National League, Football League, League Cup, FA Cup and EFL Trophy.

Are you ready for a trip down memory lane?

Jovon’s hat trick was our third in succession against Bristol Rovers, but also the first time a player has graduated on some level from our academy and scored three goals since (perhaps) Mick Harford. That’s if you count Harford as a former YT.

It’s also the first Football League hat trick scored by a player we own at Sincil Bank since 2006.

Joe Taylor was a bit of a goal machine for City, and he scored three against the Gas last season in another game we won 5-0. It came at the end of a crazy week where we scored 16 times, but in truth, we were quite fortunate to win this one 5-0.

Taylor is now at Huddersfield, where he signed with some fanfare in January, before getting injured.
