Jack Moylan To Start Against Port Vale? Broadest Hint Dropped

Jack Moylan is a darling of the supporters, a box of tricks who wants to create and excite whenever he can.

Twice his Imps career has been interrupted by injury, but he made an explosive return to action last weekend, helping us claw back a two-goal deficit, before succumbing to that late Jack Grimmer goal against Wycombe.

Fans are eager to see someone with his drive in the ten role, and it might be that we’re about to get our wish. The club and Michael Skubala have dropped the broadest hint yet that Jack will start the game.

Firstly, Jack was on Imps+ media duty this week, and that’s usually a good indicator of a starting berth. Ben House, who didn’t start the Doncaster game, was on media duty before Wycombe, and played. Oscar Thorn was in the same boat against Barnsley – it’s very rare a player does the pre-match comms and doesn’t start.

Also, Michael Skubala hinted strongly that Jack will be in contention in his pre-match interview.

“He’s good now,” said Michael. “The plan was for him to get through 30, get through 45, and then he’s open for selection. I don’t think he’ll get through 90 if he were to start, but he’s available to start.”

It isn’t just the words claiming he is available that piqued my interest. He was described by our head coach as a ‘magic man’, which hints at a desire to see him in the starting XI.

“I think he’s a bit of a magic man isn’t he? He wants to get on the ball he wants to drive forward he wants to be positive it’s great it’s great to see.”

The key to seeing him regularly appears to be the same as seeing more of Erik Ring, who missed out on the squad completely against Wycombe.

“I think his (Moylan’s) challenge is dealing with the physicality at times but I think everybody saw what he can bring to the team

“His enthusiasm and his positivity – he can get on the ball and attack players and drive he’s an exciting player when he’s on form so yeah he brings another dimension to that top line which is exciting.”

As for Jack, he is also raring to go, as he explained in his pre-match interview

“The second I’m back, I want to be playing. I know I probably need to be patient and bide my time. The second I get back out there, I want to be playing games, I want to be involved. And I know it takes time. It’s not easy just to walk back into it.

“But obviously all the rehab I did and trying to look after myself, especially cut off the pitch, it helps the second you get back out.”

Jack Moylan to make a triumphant return to the Bank? Given how little we’ve seen of him at home, he certainly hopes so.

“I think I’ve played one game there nearly this whole year. So, yeah, I can’t wait.

“I hope the place is hopping. It’s going to be really good. We’re still up and around the top of the league, so it’s where we want to stay.”
