Skegness Town Launch Investigation After Coffee Thrown At Opponent

Skegness Town have confirmed they are investigating an incident in which a cup of coffee was thrown at a player during their Reserves’ 2-2 draw with Immingham Town on 15th February.

The allegation emerged via social media, with opposition manager Jon Davy claiming one of his players was targeted during the Step 7 fixture. He stated that the club were asked to remove the spectator responsible, but that the individual remained in the ground. The matter, he added, had been reported to both the league and the FA, and he questioned whether further action, potentially involving the police, should follow.

In a follow-up post, Davy said the referee had spoken to both managers and informed them the spectator needed to be removed. According to Davy, that did not happen.

The incident prompted widespread reaction online, with some calling for immediate action and suggesting that, if proven, the club could face disciplinary consequences. Others described the episode as a poor reflection on grassroots football, although also noting that such scenes are rare in the local game.

Skegness Town responded later that evening with an official statement from safeguarding and welfare officer Dale Houlston.

“We are aware of an incident that took place at our Reserves team fixture yesterday,” the statement read.

“Skegness Town Football Club takes safeguarding and welfare matters seriously, and we adopt a zero tolerance approach. We would like to assure everyone that this matter is not being ignored, and that a full investigation has commenced.”

The match itself ended 2-2, with Britton and Potts scoring for Skegness. In a brief summary of the game, the club reflected on missed opportunities and quickly turned attention to next week’s Junior Cup semi-final.

However, the focus now rests on the off-field issue and what action, if any, may follow. With the matter reportedly referred to both league and county FA authorities, the outcome will depend on official reports and any subsequent findings from Skegness Town’s internal investigation.
