Stacey West Lincoln City Player Suggestions: Are They Any Good?

Max Fenger, Odense

Fenger was playing for Odense and perhaps felt one of the more ambitious suggestions on the list. He already had plenty of Danish top-flight experience and had also spent time on loan in Sweden’s top division, where he chipped in with goals and regular appearances.

The appeal was his flexibility and work in wide areas. Although naturally a striker, he could play on either wing and delivered a high number of crosses per game. There was also evidence he could fill in at right back, which made him feel like a player capable of fitting multiple tactical setups.

Where is he now?

Now 24, Fenger is hot property. He plays for IFK Göteborg in Sweden, and smashed 15 goals and grabbed three assists in 34 games for them last season as they finished fourth. At the time I wrote about him, he was valued at €500,000 by Transfermarkt, but his value today is more than €2m. He has only scored twice in the 2026 campaign, which started in February.

Frederik Heiselberg, Midtjylland

Heiselberg was on the books at Midtjylland and had represented Denmark at youth level, ticking several of the boxes City appeared to target at the time. He had also been gaining senior experience out on loan, despite not yet posting impressive goalscoring numbers.

The interest then came more from his profile than his statistics. At 6ft 3in, he contested a huge number of aerial duels and looked like a physically imposing centre forward who might possess qualities not immediately obvious through goals and assists alone.

Where is he now?

Nowhere special. He’s in the Danish second tier with Hillerød Fodbold after a season in Norway with Aalesund. They were second-tier also, but he did help them to promotion to the Eliteserien. He scored three times and assisted once before moving to Slotsbyens hold who just missed out on promotion to the Superliga. He was a regular, but scored just three times.

Mamoudou Karamoko, Copenhagen

Karamoko was probably one of the least realistic names mentioned, given he belonged to Copenhagen and had previous connections with Wolfsburg and Fehervar. However, there was a feeling that loans from bigger Scandinavian clubs into League One could become more common.

The attraction was obvious. He was an aggressive ball carrier who loved dribbling at defenders and could operate either centrally or in a supporting attacking role. His dribble numbers were excellent, and stylistically he looked capable of fitting the creative attacking role occupied at times by players such as Teddy Bishop or Danny Mandroiu.

Where is he now?

He’s playing for Dinamo București in Romania, and they’re on the cusp of European football, having qualified for the play-off round. He’s primarily playing left wing for them, and he still likes a dribble. He’s scored six times, plus added an assist, and is one of the more successful from this list.
