Sat up here in the stands at Wycombe it’s a mixed set of emotions. On one hand it’s great to see City back in the league, on the other it’s a shame to see us concede two weak goals.
In truth it’s been an even game at best for City. Wycombe are moving the ball about well, and although they’re direct it is effective. City however haven’t had a great deal of the ball and have often failed to match their opponents across the pitch.
That said, we do look dangerous when we attack. The goal was well worked and the one time we’ve tested the keeper we’ve had joy. Arnold created it with a lovely ball which Green gobbled up.
Unfortunately since the goal Wycombe have looked solid, and both goals came from dependable set pieces. One was a free header from a free kick, the other a low dead ball which the wall should have defended.
This isn’t the Lincoln we know, although as expected Matt Rhead is not getting the rub of the green. He’s been booked and hasn’t really had any effect at all.
Neal Eardly has been the stand out performer so far, despite being on his lesser-favoured left side. Unfortunatelyhis influence hasn’t been enough to steady a fragile back line.
If City are going to come away with anything then they’ll need to change the approach. Matt Green will score if he is provided for, but aside from the goal our wingers have been ineffective.
Hopefully we’ll see an improved City in the second 45 minutes.
