Ollie Palmer – Player of the Month?

Wow. Ollie Palmer has been nominated as the SkyBet League Two Player of the Month, along with manager Danny Cowley.

Ollie has 108 minutes of League Two action under his belt, but he’s in line for the award in a real shock nomination. That isn’t to say he doesn’t deserve recognition, but I’m surprised a super sub has been nominated. That said, he’s bagged some crucial goals.

The nomination states: “Palmer spent just 108 minutes on the pitch in March, but what an impact he made. A substitute in all five games, he scored in the final 10 minutes three times, earning his side a point at Mansfield and all three against Exeter.”

Karlan Ahearne Grant of Crawley, Mo Eisa of Cheltenham and Adam El-Abd make up the other nominated players. That makes Ollie an outside bet but he will be delighted to have been recognised as such a key component in our recent form.

It’s not surprising that Danny is once again in the frame for Manager of the Month and I imagine it’ll be between him and John Coleman. Of Danny, they said: “Kept the minds of his players off the upcoming Checkatrade Trophy final and firmly on the task of securing a play-off berth. Their fitness and intensity paid off with late goals which helped to secure 11 points from five unbeaten games.”

Aside from Coleman, Keith Curle and Mark Robins are also in the frame. The winners will be announced Friday morning.

  1. What a refreshing nomination for a most unusual player. I think there is something special about the way he has been consistently effective when others might have been demotivated and sulked. Well done Ollie!

  2. Don’t want to be a killjoy as absolutely loving his goals, especially on Friday. But he has got to work on a new celebration. 2 unncessary yellow cards now which may be important as we head to the playoffs and suspensions loom, he has more yellow cards than starts. Two more cards and he is suspended, I think for two games but certainly one
