They played for both: Port Vale

I’m probably on the way to Vale as you read this now, but in true Stacey West fashion I don’t want to leave you too long without something to read.

There hasn’t been a long and rich history with Vale in terms of past meetings, although those of a certain age will fondly recall a Tony Lormor brace securing a 2-2 draw there just months after they won the Autoglass Trophy in 1993.

A 0-0 draw at the Bank, followed by extra time, eventually saw City win on away goals, bringing Everton to Sincil Bank. I think we all remember where we were when City almost shocked the Premier League giants, even Clive Nates!

Port Vale were also briefly nicknamed Port Fail, for their failure to beat Barnet on the final day of the 2010/11 season. It was our own fault we went down, but had they come up trumps against Martin Allen’s side we would have remained in the Football League. Despite the horror of those National league years, I wouldn’t change a thing now, not if it meant missing out on the last two seasons of unbridled joy.

Away from our matches against each other, I’ve delved into the archive to find three players from our recent history who represented both sides. I hope you enjoy the look down memory lane where you’ll find heroes, anti heroes and perhaps the greatest hero of them all.
