Bostwick signs a one-year contract extension

He wasn’t even out of contract, but our man mountain in midfield, Michael Bostwick, has pledged his future to the Imps by signing an extension to his current deal.

His initial deal was due to expire in 2019, but he’s added another year to that to ensure he will be here until the summer of 2020. Considering this is a player Blackburn were willing to pay £750,000 for last summer, this is a decent bit of business.

Not only that, but Bostwick is an animal, strong and tough but restrained too. His recent rescinded red card saved the evening against Coventry and although it is a team game, he is a huge part of the team.

He’s made 51 appearances for us in league and cup this season, turning in strong enough performances to ensure he was named in the Sky Bet League Two team of the Year.

News of the new deal has rather come from nowhere, with no speculation around his future I don’t think anyone expected it, until this morning of course when suddenly all the internet expected it! I certainly never saw it coming, there seemed little to worry about.

In instances like this I look for the reasons behind the situation. Did Bozzie ask for the talks, or are Danny and Nicky planning ahead and wanting to be sure their assets stay put? Also, are we not hoping to hear of another contract extension soon? Maybe, with Michael Bostwick signing on the dotted line to ensure a two-year stay, someone else might be tempted to do the same?

Whatever the reasons, this is more great news. You can see why the club wanted to call a press conference, can’t you?
