This weekend we play Yeovil in the final match of the normal season, looking for a play off spot. If we are to make it, it will be the third time we’ve played the Glovers on the final day ahead of a play off campaign.
Remarkably, we’ve lost the previous two matches played on the final day, 3-2 in 2004 and 3-0 in 2005. Both seasons represented the finest Imps players of a generation stumbling to the semi-finals. In 2004, we ended up beaten by Huddersfield in the semi-finals, in 2005 Champions Yeovil beat us 3-0 but we ended up on the Millennium Stadium turf, losing 2-0 to Steve Tilson’s Southend.
How many Imps players from those two matches can you name in ten minutes? Some played both games, others played just one. There’s a former YTS player who never scored in the mix, a League Two legend in a short spell with City and a defender you’ll struggle to remember, unless your Mandy Slater.
