Back to Accrington Stanley

Nathan Arnold v Accrington 2018

It’s official, we’ve been handed an away trip to Accrington Stanley in the Checktrade Trophy, visiting there the first week of December.

The much-maligned competition has ensured we’re on our way back across the country in December, not long after thinking we’d be spared that particular ordeal after their promotion. Our final trip of last season, as enjoyable as it was for the craic, brought defeat and a long journey home.

There will be fewer fans this time around, far fewer, for a competition that we managed to progress in despite not winning a single game. Last season we won all three of our group games en route to winning the bloody thing, but this time around few seemed fussed as we looked for an early exit. ‘Luckily’ Mansfield beat Scunthorpe and a freak set of results meant we managed to progress.

Whilst the competition is good for keeping non-first team regulars sharp, there’s still a requirement to play a certain number of key players, something we could really do without. Still, as I said on the pod, as a Checkatrade Hypocrite another win or two will pique my interest once more.

Just fifteen minutes after the draw was made, there’s already plenty of reaction to the news, none of it positive. Enjoy the sounds of Half Man Half Biscuit by clicking play above for their ode to the competition, whilst perusing what a selection off fans are thinking of it right now.
