City have been linked with a move for Fleetwood Town defender Cian Bolger, according to HITC.
They’re one of the sites I tend to put a little more belief in, which means there’s every chance we are looking at the former Southend man. He’s tumbled down the pecking order at Fleetwood and is seemingly surplus to requirements under Joey Barton.
If the deal is possible it would be a massive signing for City, as recently as this August Bolger was being linked with a loan move to the Championship, specifically with Hull City. That didn’t transpire and he could now be on his way to Sincil Bank.
At the time of his links with Championship sides, Fleetwood coach Steve Eyre said; “I think he has been one of the best centre-halves in the division. He has had two really good seasons in League One. He is well established and respected across the game at this level.”
“Given his age, and the way he defends in his own box and attacks in the other box, he was likely to have potential suitors from a so-called bigger club.”
The former Eire Under 21 international is perhaps best known for his spells with Bristol Rovers and Southend, although he cemented his reputation with the Cod Army, only to fall away when former Rangers player Barton took over.
He’s a centre half who has made 63 League One appearances in the last two season. He’s right footed and isn’t thought to also be a full back, meaning any capture might lead to a move into midfield for Michael Bostwick. It could also spell trouble for James Wilson, thought to be on the cusp of a possible move away from the club.
This might not be the only bit of business the Imps do with Fleetwood this window, with striker Ashley Nadeson also linked with a switch to Sincil Bank.
The capture of Bolger in particular would be incredible for the Imps, but if we were to attract both players it would be a real sign of our intent.
