Yesterday was a bittersweet day for two of our loan players, Danny Rowe and Jordan Roberts. the pair are on loan from Ipswich and have seen their parent club relegated, whilst the Imps secured the League Two title.
Whilst Roberts has been nothing more than a bit-part player, Danny Rowe has been integral to the side in recent weeks. He announced his arrival for the second time with three goals in two matches, going on to make eleven starts and a further five from the bench.
He’s a popular figure at the Bank, the Stacey West sponsor his shirt and his all-action displays never fail to impress those watching on. Had Mark O’Hara caught a glimpse of him in the dying seconds of yesterday’s match, he would have had a late goal to add to his current tally of four.
It’s the second trophy in two years Rowe has lifted with Lincoln, having been part of the EFL trophy winning side last year. His contract with Ipswich still has a while to run and sadly, he revealed that he believes he’s wanted back by his parent club in the summer.
“From what I’m hearing, I think Ipswich might want me back in the summer,” he told Michael Hortin, live on BBC Radio Lincolnshire (available to listen to again on the excellent Hope and Glory podcast episode 86).
“I love playing here, I get on well with all the boys and the great manager. I would be open to coming back here, depending on what football can be guaranteed elsewhere.
“For me, I’d love to be back here but we’ll have to see what happens.”
Rowe is a very grounded character, quieter than some of the boys and responded very well to a tough question. He has to tread a very fine line; he can’t discount an Ipswich return as there’s been no fall out and dropping a level opens the door for him. Similarly, he clearly loves Lincoln and the set up and would relish a chance to come back.
It will be a shame if Rowe does go back in the summer and isn’t available for a return, but rest assured if that’s the case, Danny will have something lined up.
