Free Agents – Five realistic prospects from League One who’d complement our squad

I know what you’re thinking; he’s already done this before.

Yes, to a degree, you’re right. I did highlight five League One free agents we might have benefited from signing a couple of months back, but what I’m keen to do now is make it relevant and most of all, realistic.

For instance, in my last piece I noted Ruben Lameiras would be a great signing. he would be a great signing, but today he’s been linked with a move to Bordeaux. South of France, or South Park? I think we’d be ruled out of that.

There’s talk of Jack Grimmer, another player I rated, going back up to Scotland and Graham Carey is likely to look for a move that pays a big fat wage, which we’re not going to do unless it’s for the right person.

I’d love to start talking about Tom Eaves, but he’s not going to take £3k a week at Lincoln City when he’s just bagged a load of goals for Gillingham and wants a payday further up. Even though he’s League Two, the same goes for James Norwood. Top player, but not a truly realistic target.

I’ve trawled through the Grimsby Telegraph’s list of out of contract players to pick five more who I think we might stand a chance of signing and who perhaps would fit into the needs of our squad.

For instance, I believe we need another centre forward, possibly cover on the flanks and certainly someone who can play the role behind Akinde should we stick to the 4-4-1-1. we may also be looking for another keeper, depending on how Josh’s injury looks.

Here’s the five players I’ve picked from the list who might be realistic targets and would do a job within our current group.
