Imps credited with Jorge Grant interest, Oxford also chasing 24-year-old

This story comes from the site I work for; a Nottingham-based journalist has a contact close to Grant and he’s saying we’re one of a couple of sides keeping tabs on him.

I did get a message yesterday to say the same, this time from a Mansfield fan who claimed he’d been to our training ground recently. I prefer not to report on something unless it’s from a credible site, but FLW does have a good record in exclusives of late.

I’m working for them this morning and therefore can’t write too much now, but we all know who Grant is. He was tremendous for Notts County the season before last, but struggled at Luton and then found himself woefully under-used at Mansfield.

He had been labelled as lazy and uninterested at Field Mill, with his outing against us less than impressive albeit as a late sub in a game crying out for creativity.

Had we been linked with Grant 12 months ago, I would have salivated wildly and claimed we’d be going up. In League One he’s not been as effective, but he is good on the ball and technically very competent. He would add value to the squad, that’s for sure, but it’s not all going our way.

It’s also believed Oxford, his hometown club, are interested in his services as well. Karl Robinson has said this week he’s closing in on a player who they need to pay a small fee for, so perhaps Forest have got to a point where they’re letting Grant go.

I’ll cover this in more detail when I finish my FLW shift.
