Coventry City

Coventry City have made the sort of signing that get’s Google plenty of use, picking up Curacao international Gervane Kastaneer from NAC Breda. Now, Breda fans weren’t disappointed to see him leave, but even so, it’s eye-catching for a number of reasons, the main one being how many people will now realise Curacao is a country.

The winger has agreed a three-year contract with Mark Robins’ side, having scored twice in 21 Eredivisie appearances last season.

It would be easy to criticise this move; I’m not one for lower league clubs bringing in players from the continent, nor those who have been in the top flight before. It’s all well and good going away to Ajax or Feyenoord, but Rochdale and Accrington bring about different challenges that often catch foreign imports unawares.

However, having seen the success of Boldewijn at Crawley, I’m going to reserve judgement.

Now, let’s see if the travel agents have any last minute deals to Curacao shall we, a Dutch Caribbean island which is known for its beaches tucked into coves and its expansive coral reefs rich with marine life.

Classy Peterborough

This has made me chuckle. To add context, Peterborough were in for George Edmundson, the Oldham defender who recently joined Rangers. They had a bid accepted, then Oldham changed their minds and Darragh MacAnthony had a rant about it on Twitter. It was all very classy, as you’d imagine.

In fairness, it does sound like Posh were messed around and MacAnthony had every right to voice his opinion if that’s how he chooses to conduct himself. However, they’ve now signed Frankie Kent from Colchester, a 23-year-old former Arsenal trainee.

Instead of talking up Kent and moving on from Edmundson, MacAnthony has basically said his new player is better than Edmundson. Classy.

I bet young George is gutted as he prepares to play at Ibrox for arguably one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Bury survive court date but players set to leave

The winding up order at Bury was adjourned once again, meaning they live to fight another day, but it might be a struggle for them to field a team next season.

They’ve already lost Nicky Adams who moved to Northampton, but reports are suggesting that Jay O’Shea is now closing in on a departure, shockingly to Plymouth to link up with Ryan Lowe.

That’s not the worst of it. Nicky Maynard, a big success story at Bury last season, is also thought to be leaving for the Pilgrims, there is even talk that the Rolls Royce midfielder Danny Mayr could be moving to the south coast as well. Plymouth will have some side next season if that’s the case, essentially ripping out the nucleus of an automatic promotion winning team.
