Let’s be honest, there has been plenty over the last few days for Imps’ fans to get their teeth into.
This isn’t about us though, this is the latest update for you on the rumours and moves happening elsewhere. Let’s start with Blackpool, one of our ‘rivals’ for Ball if reports are to be believed.
Blackpool could lose two
According to the Sun’s Alan Nixon, they could be facing two exits over the coming weeks. Marc Bola is one being linked with a move away, he’s the subject of interest from Luton Town. I quite like Bola for one huge reason; his background. He is a great example of not reading too much into a player’s previous experience. He’s a former Arsenal youth who had a couple of loan spells before being released.
He’s come good though, playing 43 times for the Seasiders last time out. He’s a left back and a competent and exciting one at that.
Another great example of not judging a player too much on his past is Curtis Tilt. He joined Blackpool from Wrexham a couple of years ago, coming out of the non-league scene to impress hugely. Rangers were in the hunt for him last summer and it’s Portsmouth this time out, who features next in our round-up.
There is a crumb of comfort for Blackpool fans; they’re being linked with Eoin Doyle. The 31-year-old bagged ten times for Bradford as they were relegated last season and counts Preston as one of his former employers.
Portsmouth cash in defender
As a writer for Football League World, Matt Clarke a player I’ve seen and heard quite a lot about. He was always likely to leave before the new season and now he has, for an ‘undisclosed’ fee. Annoying, isn’t it? You have a young player, talk centres on a fee of maybe £3m but when it happens you’re none the wiser. If we sold Bruno, which we might now they have some funds to spend, we wouldn’t know how much the club got either. Should we? Maybe, maybe not.
Anyway, Clarke has gone to Premier League side Brighton on a four-year deal. It’s a big switch, not unexpected, but it leaves them with a hole to plug at the back. It’s what has prompted the Tilt interest, but they’ll have an eye on others as well. it’d be nice if they had £750,000 or so left over for a winger, wouldn’t it?
To be fair, they did grab free agent Paul Downing and former Bristol Rovers man Ellis Harrison on a busy day at Fratton Park. I wonder what the capture of Ellison means for Ollie Hawkins, a one-time target for us?
James Vaughan interesting promoted Tranmere
The former Everton man is a free agent after leaving Wigan and he’s interesting our old friends Tranmere. They went one better than us in terms of speed of promotion, only spending one season back in League Two, although they did need a play-off final to get through. They’ve lost James Norwood this summer and are now hunting Vaughan as a possible replacement.
They’re up against Bradford City, but whether the Bantams could lure him to League Two if there is a League One offer on the table remains to be seen. Vaughan had a great season with Bury not long back, but has since struggled at Wigan, Sunderland and Portsmouth.
If Tranmere signed him and got him firing, he might be a very shrewd capture.
