Why the Imps links with Dundalk right back are likely to be false

I think we’ve covered the website ‘Team Talk’ before, but they’re linking us with a player once again and I’ve had a couple of emails asking me what I think of the rumours. Not much….

They’re the site that had Harry Anderson leaving us last summer and had James Hardy joining us the summer before that. You’ll note that neither of those transfers has happened.

However, they are a News Now site meaning they have some credibility and as such I thought I’d furnish you with the details. They’ve got us down as having an interest in Cameron Dummigan, the former Oldham right back who moved to Dundalk in February.

The actual story is that Grimsby have had a bid rejected for the 23-year-old, who is set to feature for the League of Ireland winners in the Champions League this week. Apparently, not only are the Mariners interested in him, but us, Luton, Millwall, Ipswich and Forest Green.

I tend to think this site has a dice it rolls to link players, but there is an element to the rumour which I could believe. We would be looking for a right back to offer cover for Neal Eardley and we have been over to Ireland to look at players.

However, the mention of a fee is one bit that has me smiling; I can’t see that being the case at all. He signed a ‘long-term’ contract a few months ago, thought to be three years. That would mean Dundalk would surely ask a chunky fee, one more than comparable to Mark O’Hara’s Posh valuation. I can’t see us paying for the lad, no matter how good he is.

To be fair, he’s a player that could make it back in England. He began his career with Burnley before a loan move to Oldham, a switch later made permanent. He has played for Northern Ireland up to Under 21 level and boasts 74 Football League appearances.

That’s all well and good, but I cannot see his 75th outing in the EFL coming in a Lincoln shirt.
