Two possible line-ups to face Accrington in 11 days time

We’re getting dangerously close to the start of the season, just 11 days will elapse before it is upon us once again.

It’s all happened so very quickly. One minute we were on the terraces at Northampton in the blazing sunshine, then freezing our asses off at home to Morecambe before lifting the title in May. One year on, it feels like no time at all.

The summer has been fairly low-key from a quantity pf signings point of view, but I think that was always going to be the case. Danny had clearly been planning for promotion last season, his signings have (arguably) been League One quality more or less since we rejoined the Football League. Bozzy and Harry Anderson were the first with the ability to step up, but certainly since the EFL Trophy win I think everyone who has arrived has been with one eye on League One.

League One; a level we haven’t successfully survived in since the 1984/85 season. Our last two forays into the third tier have resulted in relegation and many supporters won’t even remember the 1998/99 season, let alone the 1985/86 campaign. Neither were classics and the lads only have to survive to achieve the club’s highest finish in 34 years.

Three have arrived, few have left and as yet we’ve not fully tapped into the loan market. The supporters expect a centre forward, maybe Sam Surridge or Tyler Walker, whilst the suggestion of Ben Coker arriving also adds a dimension to the squad. At present we’re certainly a little light at the back, we could do perhaps with a winger and that elusive striker. After that? On we go.

I’ve seen none of the friendly matches so far and I might be tempted tomorrow night if things work out, but I’ve seen and heard enough to suggest a first team and an ‘alternative’ for home matches we might be winning. In order to fill a day before the season starts, I look at two line ups we might play against Accrington; one that’s perhaps as close as possible to last year’s setup and another which uses the new players we’ve got to find a more adventurous method to goal.

Want to see both? You know what to do.

  1. A couple of years ago, the word was that Bozzie could play right back if needed. Hoping that is still the case?
