We know Michael Appleton wants to get the average squad age down, but where do we sit in relation to the rest of the division? Are we really a collection of veterans, or has the overhaul begun in earnest? The youngster squad in the division are Wimbledon, with an average age of 23.8. That’s against a League One average of 26.

The oldest squad are Fleetwood Town, with a whopping age of 28.1. It’s not to their detriment though as they’re right in the promotion frame. So, where do the Imps site between those numbers?

We’re the seventh youngest¬†squad in the division, with an average age of 25.4. That’s just below the division average and has certainly been affected by the transfer business in the summer. Of the teams with younger squads than us, only Gillingham (25.2), Doncaster (24.8) and Coventry (24.7) are above us in the table. The others are Accrington (25), MK Dons (24.9) and obviously Wimbledon.
