Imps v MK Dons tomorrow afternoon

Thank You – Luke Howell

I’m afraid I have a problem with Luke Howell, but it shouldn’t be something I blame MK Dons for. He was the third player on this list who played for Steve Tilson as we fell out of the league. He was a decent player, loaned to us by MK and therefore worthy of thanks. Despite having a bit about him I felt he failed to play with the sort of pride and passion that could have kept us up.

Some of the facts: He signed on a one-month loan with the Imps after failing to break into the MK first team. He made his debut in a 2–2 draw against Wycombe Wanderers. A few weeks later in a match against Morecambe he was on the end of a shocking challenge which effectively ended his loan spell at Lincoln City. Luckily (!) after four weeks out he returned and extended his loan spell until the New Year.

In January of 2011 his contract with MK Dons terminated by mutual consent and he joined City permanently until the end of the season. He scored once for City in a 4–2 loss against Barnet. In May, he was one of just three squad players to be offered a new contract after a mass clear out of players following relegation from the Football League. He didn’t accept the contract.

I’ll thank MK Dons for their input here, but not Luke Howell.

Maybe I’m being unfair on him but I would like to have seen something, anything at all, in those fateful four games from April 22nd to May 7th that suggested he wanted Lincoln City to remain in the Football League.
