Three Big Calls MA Has To Make v Gillingham

TJ Eyoma

A real testament to how good this season has been will come from this question: who is your Player of the Year? If ten of you answered me, I bet more than five would have different answers. I dare bet at least one of you would say TJ Eyoma, and so Michael has a big call to make: where does he play the Spurs man? The obvious shout is right back, wth Edun at left-back, giving the defence that pre-New Year stability for a game that will be a war. However, let me throw another idea into the mix. Does Eyoma come into the defence, with Bridcutt’s protection in front of him? He could be a replacement for Adam Jackson, who Michael said this of in his press conference:

“Adam Jackson is creaking a little bit, but we’ve been aware of that for a couple of games and he’s been 50/50 for a couple of games now. He’s gone through the mill a bit; he’ll be touch and go again at some point he’s going to have to come out of it. We’re a little bit short, so it’s about picking the right moment.”

“It’s getting through the days in between the games as much as anything, making sure he’s getting the recovery he needs and not doing too much in between. Managing not just his body, but the mentality side of it as well because there’s a lot of responsibility on his shoulders in terms of the senior statesman back there.”

It could be Eyoma for Jackson, but here is another permutation you might want to roll around – Eyoma for Montsma. Lewis has struggled recently, having a decent game against Crewe but not impressing at the weekend. If Jackson is fit, do we give Montsma a break, pop Eyoma in the middle of the defence with Bridcutt forming the golden triangle? Regan Poole has looked more settled than Cohen Bramall since signing and despite a few negative balls, he hasn’t majorly let us down, so he could adequately play right back, with Edun on the left?

I think TJ has to be involved somewhere tomorrow night, the big question is where?
