Marvin Robinson

I used to jokingly called him Starving Marvin due to his lack of goals, but it was short-sighted. He was another from Kieth’s last season, along with Gritton (and the next one on the list) who wasn’t outstanding, but added value to the squad. Remember, 2005/06 had seen the breakup of the Butcher/Gain/Yeo era, with Taylor-Fletcher leaving too. It was the season of Crewe and Fulham in the EFL Cup, both great matches and both games in which Marvin bagged.
He had to wait until October for his first league goal, but once he’d struck he scored in three consecutive games Wycombe (1-2), Rochdale (2-1) and finally MK Dons (1-1). In January his original six-month contract was extended, and he ended the season with 11 goals from 40 matches, including a goal of the season contender away at Boston United and one in the 5-0 rout of Grimsby. The goal that I recall the most was the York Street strike, and although I’m sure video evidence disputes it (actually, it doesn’t, it’s in the clip below) I seem to remember an overhead volley right in front of the away fans. It was hard not to like the lad after that, but when Keith left at the end of the season, so did Marvin.
