Robson-Kanu does have a Michael Appleton link, of sorts. Both have been at West Brom, Robson-Kanu joined them in 2016 on the back of his unreal Euro 2016 goal, revitalising his career. He’s only 32, the same age as Chris Maguire, and aside from a couple of loan spells has played much of his career in the top two divisions. He has a couple of Premier League seasons behind him as well, so he fits the bill. His wages would be likely to scupper a deal, and he is unlikely to drop into League One.

Another player on the free-agent list who just wouldn’t come here, even if we wanted him. He’s played for Ajax, Auxerre and Toulouse, just because he’s a free agent doesn’t mean he’d come to us.

Do you notice a pattern here? We’re five players deep in the list that our staff are likely scouring, and we have five names that I dare bet they simply put a line through without even thinking about it. This lad has nine Senegal caps, three goals, and probably earned five figures a week in his last job.

Biamou is known to us, he played for Sutton in the 2016/17 season. He’s a big unit who scored five in 33 for Coventry in the Championship last season. He is certainly a focal point for an attack and is the sort of player I could see us going for. I’m not sure he entirely fits the Michael Appleton style, but of all the names on the list so far, his does stand out as a possible. You’ll notice, it’s only 50% though, and I don’t know if any on here will be higher than that, given how few players there are.

Nugent has one England cap and one England goal, but it was way back in 2007; before we hated Chris Sutton. That’s how long in the tooth he is, but oddly he might be an option. I’m sure him and Michael have crossed paths at some point, given his association with Leicester, Preston and Portsmouth, all former clubs of Michaels. Would a 36-year-old striker be a good fit for us? We might not have a choice if we want to cover Dan N’Lundulu.
