Danny Rowe was undoubtedly a man who had the talent to succeed, but he just never settled at Lincoln. He had spells out of the team both injured and through a loss of form, and despite showing glimpses of real quality he never performed on a consistent level. One thing he never lacked was confidence and self-assurance though, and he was one of a new breed of prolific Twitter users.

He was a Gary Simpson signing in June of 2013 and came to the club billed as a skilful forward who could also drop back into midfield. He scored on his Imps debut as we beat Macclesfield 1-0, but an injury a few weeks later picked up against Luton Town ruled him out for a couple of months. Upon his return, he struggled to break into the side, and notched just two more goals in a City shirt, a last-minute winner against Salisbury away (2-1) and a 31st-minute winner away at Wrexham (1-0).

Despite his obvious talent, he clearly wasn’t able to give his best to the Imps, and with his contract expiring, he wasn’t retained in the summer of 2014. He joined AFC Fylde, where he arguably became their best player ever. He helped the ambitious side into the National League, scoring a Messi-like 189 goals in 290 matches. After five-and-a-half seasons, he requested a move from Fylde, citing a desire to play in the Football League. Rather ironically, given last weekend’s games, he joined League Two side Oldham Athletic.

He scored 11 times in 32 matches for the Latics, but was quickly on the move again, this time joining Bradford City, also in League Two. He had just 92 days at Valley Parade, scoring five times in 18 matches, before he was on the move again, this time back into non-league with Chesterfield. His time at Bradford was short, but CEO Ryan Sparks said the club had ‘no regrets‘ about letting him go. Manager Mark Truman said he was surprised at the striker’s decision, and clearly, something was amiss.

He has since bagged nine goals in just 20 outings for the Spireites, including five in ten games in 2021/22. he suffered a ‘health issue‘ in October 2021, and hasn’t appeared for the Spireites since, as of 29th April, 2022.
