The Imps are set to miss out on winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, according to Alan Nixon on Patreon.
We’ve been linked with a move for the 19-year-old, along with Charlton, but it appears the latter are going to win the race. Their manager, Ben Garner, watched the player in action for Palace Under 21s last night, and they’ve got the green light to jump the queue for Rak-Sakyi.
Earlier in the summer, it was reported the pacey attacker was on his way to MK Dons, but that interest waned. Charlton’s swoop makes sense given the location, whilst Oxford are also in the hunt but also seem poised to miss out. It was reported that the England U20 international was being allowed to choose his destination, but Nixon reports The Addicks have ‘got the nod to take him ahead of Oxford and Lincoln’ – that suggests Charlton are favoured by Palace as well as the player.
Rak-Sakyi is very highly-rated at Palace, and they’re keen to send him somewhere where he gets games and develops. Given that he is a former England teammate of Morgan Rogers, who you’d hope speaks highly of his time here, that was expected to put is in a strong position, but the lure of remaining in London appears strong. Also, to be fair to Charlton, they’re a big club at this level and whilst competition for places will be more intense, he will be playing in front of 15,000 fans weekly.
City have numerous irons in the fire, according to local media, and whilst missing out on the player seems like a blow, we don’t know who else we’re interested in, or whether the report is accurate, Alan Nixon is usually on the money, but we will wait and see what happens over the coming hours or days.
