Midfielder Departs Sincil Bank On Loan

Central midfielder Morgan Worsfold-Gregg has departed Sincil Bank this afternoon, joining AFC Rushden and Diamonds on a season-long loan deal.

The youngster was handed his first senior contract last season after coming through the academy system, and he joins a name that is familiar to us. Rushden and Diamonds folded in 2011; had they not, they would have been the opening day opponents for us that season, not Southport, who got a reprieve from relegation.

The current side plays in the Pitching In Southern League, which is the same level as Gainsborough Trinity, one below the National League South. Whilst wearing Rushden’s colours, he’ll be coming up against the likes of Ilkeston Town, Nuneaton Borough, and Tamworth. They opened their campaign at the weekend with a 0-0 draw against Bromsgrove Sporting.

It will be hoped Worsfold-Gregg gets plenty of minutes at that level as he continues his development. The defensive midfielder was with Arsenal through to the age of 14, playing at the same age group as loan star Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

When he penned his first Imps deal, Jez George said “Morgan is a physical late developer, so he just needed a club to be patient with him and trust in his long-term development. We are delighted to be that club and look forward to seeing his continued development over the next few years within such a talented cohort of young Academy graduates.” That development started with a spell at Gainsborough and will now continue for the full season in Northants.

We Wish Morgan all the best and look forward to hearing about his development with the Diamonds. He is the second Imp to go out on loan this week, after Hayden Cann joined Gainsborough Trinity on loan following his spell with Lincoln United last season.
