What is described as a ‘strong’ Imps side won in a reserve fixture at Huddersfield this afternoon, with a double from striker Freddie Draper.
Fans are aware there have been a few fixtures this month for the reserves as we seek to get minutes into fringe players, with Luton Town recently beaten. There’s little coverage of the games from the Imps’ perspective, but other clubs do look to report on the games, and Huddersfield have done us the service of a match report, which you can read here.
The nuts and bolts are that City took a 2-0 lead, with a brace from Freddie Draper, who netted his first senior goal for the club earlier this season. He is reported to have beaten the Huddersfield keeper Jacob Chapman twice from long range. Chapman has recently been on loan with Salford City, where he appeared twice.
Huddersfield got back into the game through Ernaldo Krasniqi’s penalty, but the Imps restored the two-goal lead on the break through Julian Donnery. There was late drama as Conor Falls pulled one back for the hosts, but it was too little, too late and City registered the win.
It’s not clear who else appeared for the Imps, but the lineup was described as a ‘strong and experienced Lincoln City side’, which means players such as Oakley-Booth may have featured, and possibly even Ben House, Lewis Montsma and Sean Roughan, whom we are expecting back from injury.
Either way, it’s nice to see us winning games and scoring goals in reserve football, as it means the players involved are getting into the winning habit, something those in the first team will be hoping to do this weekend against Burton Albion.
