Former Imps Target Likely To Move This Summer – Are We In The Mix?

The Imps’ interest in Reeco Hackett-Fairchild was well known in the winter window, and it seems if we want to go back for him, we could be in with a shout, as per the Portsmouth News.

It was revealed a couple of weeks ago that he was free to find a new club if the bid was right, and today the news has broken that Pompey are confident they’ll receive bids for him come June 14th, which is when the transfer window reopens. It sounds very much as if a deal is on the table from someone, as they’re described as ‘buoyed by early interest’ and are ‘comfortable with the situation’ as they intend to offload the former Charlton man.

I know we were interested on deadline day, and if we’d got the go-ahead from Fratton Park, Reeco Hackett-Fairchild would be a Lincoln City player now. That suggests to me we’d attracted him to the club, sold him our vision, and agreed on personal terms. If that is the case, then it would put us ahead of the game this summer. I’d even read an unsubstantiated rumour thread that suggested the player had already been to Lincoln this summer, visiting the training ground.

Of course, there’s other interest, with Exeter City and Bristol Rovers both reported to have shown interest on deadline day, but only one club put in a bid, only one club secured all the components needed for a move, bar the selling club’s okay, and that was us. Today’s news suggests a club is already ahead of the curve in terms of getting the winger on board this summer. Is that us? My gut feeling is that he could well be a target for us this summer.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild is a former Charlton youngster who made his name in the National League with Bromley. He would certainly suit our 3-4-3, as he can play anywhere across the front line. He’s 25 and was usually found on the left flank for Pompey. He’s scored seven times in 60 outings for them but only started 27 games in his stint at Fratton Park.
