This weekend sees a memorial match for David Pickwell, known as Picky, who tragically passed away last year.
Picky was a friend of the blog and someone I considered to be a friend as well. We had a shared passion for football geekiness, and we sat in December 2021 and watched Jez George deliver a talk like two schoolboys in awe at seeing the goings on behind the scenes. We chatted, ate cake, and drank tea, blissfully unaware that it would be the last time we were ever going to be able to do so. It wasn’t the first time – we often chatted about the Imps’ youth prospects, up-and-coming players, and anything else relevant to his role as a researcher for Football Manager. I miss those chats.
Picky left behind two sons, Joshua and Jake, who are 11 and 10 years old. They share the same enjoyment and passions, whether building Lego, playing cricket, or watching football, especially their beloved Lincoln City. The match this weekend is to raise money for them in these hard times to put a smile on their faces. The boys, with the help from their mum Sandy, can spend the money on treats, such as new Lego, days out, holidays away, or even the odd football shirt.
The game will be going ahead on the 24th of June at Lynnsport, Greenpark Ave, King’s Lynn PE30 2NB. Lynnsport has kindly allowed the organisers to use their venue to host the firefighters vs Dave’s friends/family, with kick-off at 13:00. Joshua and Jake will get things started and present the winner’s trophy.
There will be a hog roast next to the pitch, a bar open until five, and a fire appliance and ambulance for kids to look at! The raffle includes various football-related prizes, including a signed Harry Toffolo boot and shirt.
