The Imps are not thought to be interested in former Halifax defender Jesse Debrah, despite reports to the contrary yesterday.
22-year-old Debrah has recently left the National League side and has been heavily linked with moves to both Barnsley and Walsall. Yesterday, we were linked with a move for the defender by journalist Darren Witcoop, but those reports are seemingly wide of the mark.
Firstly, Imps fan site All Lincoln tweeted that they believed the move was not going ahead; we’ve since independently verified that and as far as it appears, the club are not interested in signing the former Millwall trainee, despite the reports.
Debrah would command a fee were he to sign for City, as he’s under 23 and has rejected a deal with Halifax. That seemingly paved the way for Barnsley to swoop, but their boss distanced himself from a move yesterday, saying, “With any transfer, we are not at liberty to disclose any details about why or why not someone might be signing or not. It is not the professional thing to do.”
The rumours did seem to have some validity, given that we are thought to be looking for a centre back to bolster our current group. Depending on how we arrange our players, we do seem to be one short, and Michael Hortin has suggested on Twitter that we are in for someone to play across the back.
However, that seemingly won’t be Debrah, and the defender that won the FA Trophy with Halifax will now seemingly join another team. He could possibly become a teammate of current Imps striker Freddie Draper, who is on loan at Walsall, the club he seems most likely to sign for.
