Imps Signing Expected Before The Weekend

The Imps are expected to announce a loan signing before the fixture with Wycombe this weekend, according to Michael Hortin on Twitter.

The club has yet to venture into the loan market, but with defensive areas looking light on the cover, it is widely expected we’ll seek to bring in a centre-back and possibly a wing-back as well. It seems we’re looking to move on that sooner rather than later, with a player now expected to arrive before the visit of Matt Bloomfield Wycombe.

At the moment, there are no names being linked in terms of defence, but a centre-back is a priority for cover. With it being a loan player, expect someone young and hungry, a Scott Wharton or Harry Boyes type of player. Ironically, Boyes will likely line up against the Imps this weekend after joining Wycombe in the summer.

If we are to sign a player before the weekend, he must be registered before midday tomorrow, but as we saw with Mide Shodipo, they don’t have to be announced publicly. Shodipo was unveiled in the build-up to our trip to MK Dons last season but had penned his loan deal before the deadline.

This is the first season I can remember in a long time where the Imps have not had a loan player in the squad. The game again Bolton was the first time we put out a starting XI without a loan player in it since December 28th, 2018, when we visited Cambridge United. On that occasion, two loan players did come off the bench, Kellan Gordon and Scott Wharton.
