Player of the Month – November 2023

It’s time for our monthly piece once again, and it’s been quite a month.

Each week, you rate the players after a game. With that in mind, we can produce a top three, a best performance, a worst performance, and a single standout performance. Last season, we included a lot of stats, but we’re watering them down a little and instead focusing on your ratings, with the odd stat thrown in for good measure.

In November, we played seven fixtures, one in the EFL Trophy, one in the FA Cup and five in the league. We scored ten goals, conceded six, and amassed eight points. We won twice in the league and once in the cup, suffering one league defeat, two draws and FA Cup elimination.

Sa 04Nov 2023 Lincoln 1 – 2 Morecambe
Tu 07Nov 2023 Lincoln 2 – 0 Notts Co
Sa 11Nov 2023 Lincoln 1 – 1 Port Vale
Sa 18Nov 2023 Stevenage 1 – 0 Lincoln
Tu 21Nov 2023 Leyton Orient 0 – 1 Lincoln
Sa 25Nov 2023 Lincoln 2 – 2 Barnsley
Tu 28Nov 2023 Cambridge U 0 – 3 Lincoln

Oh, we also gained a manager. Forgot about that.

Anyway, who were our top performers?

3rd – Adam Jackson (7.10)

Remember the Adam Jackson that everyone said can’t play Saturday / Tuesday. Yeah, I remember that guy. He’s long gone, and after winning your Player of the Year last season, he’s picked up where he left off this campaign. Adam Jackson managed to feature in all seven matches, the only player in the top three to come through the FA Cup defeat, play in the BSM Trophy and still make the top three.

He didn’t win a Man of the Match, which I think underlines the fact he is almost always reliable. He’s a steady seven in almost every match, and his score never dipped below a 6.4, which indicates a degree of consistency in performance.

2nd – TJ Eyoma (7.10)

Despite having the same score, TJ has snatched second from Jacko because he twice won your Man of the Match. Had he not scored badly against Morecambe, he would have been Player of the Month, without a doubt.

I’m really enjoying TJ’s resurgence, and whilst his MOM performance against Stevenage passed me by due to the evils of the demon drink, his outstanding display against Barnsley did not. He’s looked confident and settled this month, and when you get TJ Eyoma in a good place, you have a top end League One player on your hands, at the very least.

1st – Alex Mitchell (7.25)

Two months in a row. That’s Alex Mitchell’s current record, and whilst he only played four of the seven games, his average rating across those games was sufficient to put him on top. It’s harsh on TJ – if I did this as a pick, not just guided by scores, TJ would have been Player of the Month, but Mitchell hit the criteria (over 50% of the games), and he was solid in those matches.

He’s certainly going to be giving new Millwall boss Joe Edwards something to think about. I do hope his new boss recognises he’s the first player to win back-to-back Player of the Month awards on here since Conor McGrandles in March/April
