City Linked With Swoop For Premier League Striker

The Imps are being linked with a move for Premier League striker Joe Taylor, currently on loan at Colchester in League Two.

Football Insider are the site doing the linking, and the report falls foul of the rule of three (more than three clubs linked), which somewhat devalues the accuracy. Wycombe, Bolton and Oxford are also linked, meaning 16% of the division could be poised to move for Taylor.  While it feels a little speculative, it is a rumour in the window and, therefore, one worth looking at in passing.

21-year-old Taylor was on the books of Norwich City as a youngster, later appearing for King’s Lynn and Swaffham before a move to Wroxham. He caught the eye of Peterborough United, who snapped him up for an undisclosed fee in November 2021.

He turned out 19 times for Posh, scoring once, but clearly caught the eye of the bigger boys. Luton signed him up last January, and he played a key part in their promotion to the Premier League. He scored in extra time of their play-off final, only for it to be ruled out, before keeping his nerve to bag a penalty as they made their way back to the top flight after a 30-year absence.

Taylor had clearly impressed, and as senior football was needed, a loan deal to Colchester was sorted this summer. His time in Essex has been a success – he’s hit 12 goals and added two assists in a struggling team. He is now set to be recalled and loaned out again, this time into our division.

Taylor has also represented Wales at Under 21 level, and his 5ft 7in frame means he might not be the target centre forward many feel we need. However, with players out (I might have mentioned that before), we do need bodies, and I fully expect a loan striker to come in during the window.

By the way, a loan player scoring ten goals in League Two being hot property….. I’m saying nothing.
