Player of the Month – January 2024

It’s time for our monthly piece once again, and it’s been a much slower month than usual.

In January, we played four fixtures, all in the league. We scored one goal, conceded three, and amassed three points. We didn’t win a game for the second month in a row, but we did make a handful of signings. We did see improvements from December, and three of the four teams we played were above us in the league.

Mo 01Jan 2024 Blackpool 2 – 0 Lincoln
Sa 13Jan 2024 Wycombe 1 – 1 Lincoln
Sa 20Jan 2024 Lincoln 0 – 0 Derby
Sa 27Jan 2024 Lincoln 0 – 0 Peterborough

Anyway, who was the best City had to offer in January?

3rd – Ethan Erhahon (7.63)

Some think Ethan had a bit of a blip immediately after Mark Kennedy left, but there’s no doubt he’s back to his best, pulling the strings in the Imps’ midfield. He picked up a Man of the Match for his performance at Wycombe, and despite missing the Blackpool game, he still managed a high average rating. It’s great to have him back at his best.

2nd – Alex Mitchell (7.68)

Alex Mitchell has been your Player of the Month for three months in a row, and literally, a single mark stopped that being four. Last month, he shared the award with Ethan Hamilton, just as he shared Man of the Match with Adam Jackson twice in January. They scored 8.6 against Derby and Peterborough, remarkable numbers and a testament to the quality the young Millwall defender has.

1st – Adam Jackson (7.70)

Captain. Leader. Warhorse. Warrior. All of those superlatives can describe Adam Jackson, and he bagged a remarkable three Man of the Match awards in January, sharing two with Alex Mitchell. Just a single point (7.2 v 7.1) separated them against Blackpool, but it was enough to give Jacko his first Player of the Month award this season.

He was here in the 2020/21 play-off season and is now in his fourth full campaign with City. I think it can be argued this is perhaps his best yet, and he’s a standout candidate for Player of the Year already.
