Fixture List Almost Complete With New Face In League Cup

Harrogate Town. You barely play them once in 140 years, and then they’re up twice in as many months.

Simon Weaver’s side was announced as a pre-season opponent, with us going to Wetherby Road on July 27th. Now, we get a return leg, of sorts, as they’ve been drawn as our opponents in the League Cup, ties to take place the week commencing August 12th, the first midweek of the season.

In some instances, clubs might choose to reschedule a friendly with a competitive fixture so close to the season, but I doubt that will be the case for our tie with the Suplhurites. That means after a friendly game a decade ago, we will see them twice in as many weeks.

We never faced Simon Weaver’s side in competitive action before, so it’s a chance for groundhoppers to chalk off a new stadium.  The Sulphurites finished 13th in League Two last season, a fine finish given the spending of some of their rivals, and at 15 years, Weaver is the longest-serving manager in the league, having been in charge since May 2009. We did play them in pre-season 2013 when a Nick Wright hat trick gave us a 3-2 win.

Thus far this summer, they’ve only made one signing: former QPR youngster Stephen Duke-McKenna, who joined on a free transfer. The Guyanan international has spent time on loan with Mansfield and Sutton, and he’s likely to be a player facing the Imps in the Cup.

The big story will be Jack Muldoon‘s return to the Bank. Jack was a key player for us in the Cowley season, always loved by the supporters, and he’ll get a warm reception when the two teams take to the field in August.
