While we wait patiently for a keeper, assistant manager and a couple of centre backs, other clubs are hard at recruitment in our division.
There are a lot of clubs going for it this summer, and over the last couple of days, there have been some moves I find really quite eye-catching.
To while away the time before something happens at the Bank, I thought I’d look at three of them here.
Taylor Richards – Cambridge United (Loan)

Maybe I’m stuck in the past, but I can see this being not just a good signing for Cambridge but a huge one. Richards massively impressed me for Doncaster during the COVID season, with a blend of power and pace that we struggled to cope with.
I remember praying we signed Richards the following summer, but we didn’t – he went on loan to Birmingham and QPR and struggled. He’s been with QPR permanently, but again, he has barely played – in fact, since 2021, he’s played just 31 competitive games in all competitions.
That’s about to change – Cambridge will surely look to build out a side around him, and if he’s anything like he was back in 2020/21, he will be a monster at this level. He’s only 23 as well, so still plenty of time to mature and develop.
Sebastian Revan – Wrexham

This is worrying because it shows a really astute bit of business being conducted by Wrexham. Deep down, I’d hoped they went down the ‘paying £6,000 a week for Ollie Palmer’ route, like Fleetwood, grabbing names on big bucks but not really thinking about the recruitment.
Instead, they’ve secured a 21-year-old fullback on a three-year deal, a player who played 36 times in the Championship last season for Rotherham. In my opinion, it’s the sort of transfer strategy that pays off, not just buying names, but buying talent. Revan won’t be known to a lot of Lincoln fans, but I think this is a serious statement by Wrexham, and the sort of capture that should make people take note.
Josh Griffiths – Bristol Rovers (Loan)

I’ve picked this out for the Imps angle. Honestly, I’m not sold on Josh. He had a tough time here, and of the five keepers we’ve had in recent seasons (Palmer, Griffiths, Rushworth, Jensen and Vickers) he’s probably the one I’d put at the bottom of the pile.
That said, he’s still only 22. He recently signed a new three-year deal at West Brom, and so perhaps I’m being harsh. I tend to think that if a player from a league above spends three seasons on loan in one division, it’s a sign of no progression. Perhaps, given that WBA won’t loan him to a divisional rival, I’m being harsh.
I’m really eager to see how this pans out.
