2017- Wycombe Wanderers 2-2 Lincoln City

For me, this was the opening day to top all opening days. It was the end of one journey, and the start of another. For all of my life, I will remember those words that the announcer uttered as we took to the pitch: “welcome to the League Two clash between….”. There didn’t need to be anymore, we were back in the Football League after a six-year absence and the whole day was a huge celebration.

I recall meeting Colin Murphy’s son Ben in the fanzone, he gave me a flag he’d had since the GMVC days, which was a lovely gesture. The whole day was one of celebration, redemption and new beginnings. The 2-2 draw filled us with hope too, and eight months later we had a trophy and a playoff place to show for our troubles. If Carlsberg did opening days, they might have given u a win, but they couldn’t possibly have improved upon it in any other way.
