Michael Skubala has once again been nominated for Manager of the Month, which is the third time since he started at the club.
Now, assuming that we take December as his first full month, it is actually remarkable. He’s managed for five full active months at City: January, February, March, April, and August, and he’s been nominated for manager of the month in three of those. That’s 60% of his time at the club in which he has been seen as one of the best four managers in Lague One. Outstanding work.
Of all the months, this is the one that perhaps we don’t feel he should win. He is nominated alongside Stockport County’s Dave Challinor, Birmingham City’s Chris Davies and Phil Parkinson of Wrexham. My gut feeling is Dave Challinor will win it, and probably should win it, but it’s still a huge honour to bestow on our boss. Hell, I’ve been nominated for three Football Content Awards in the past, and each one felt a little bit like a win. This won’t phase the boss one bit, but it is just further recognition that we’ve got a really good one in the dugout.
It is probably the Imps’ record of nine goals scored in August that has helped him get there, the most of any club in League One. Nine points from four games is good, but there are teams above us in the league, so we’re not purely there on placement. Two of our wins have been away, and the irony is that we probably should have won the one game we lost, Barnsley.
Obviously we wish Michael the best of luck, but considering there’s a so-called curse around the winner, and they’re announced on Friday 13th, I’d probably rather he didn’t win. Go home and look at the Stacey West Award we printed up Michael, and remember that you’re a winner with the fans!
Also, a quick word for the organisers – perhaps to save time, it’s best just to announce when Michael isn’t nominated?
