A couple of weeks ago, a group of us set off from Bardney and, in doing so, raised more than £3600 for Cancer Research.
It’s a ridiculous amount, seven times what we hoped to raise, and it’s down to you, and everyone who did the walk. As many of you know, my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer at the end of last year, and thanks to advances in treatment, he was cancer-free by the time we put six past Cambridge.
Firstly, the participants were in no particular order. Huge shout out to Pete Hutchinson, Mo Hutchinson, Fiona Bottrill, Babs Landamore, Mark Knowles, Claire Hunsley, Steve Barton, Adam Butler, Chris Laming, Steph Earle, Mike Downs, Adam Bandelow and Nick Oxberry. Big shout out to Ainsworth, Star and Ruby, the four-legged friends who also set off from Bardney.
The walk was a different challenge for each of us, all different fitness levels and ages, but we completed it in two hours and 22 minutes, which was incredible.
I found it a huge amount of fun, and in the end, we settled into the Ivy Club in Wragby for a well-earned pint. One or two of them (not me) may have had a few more than one…
Here’s the important bit – we raised £3680 for Cancer Research. That is credit to each and every one of the walkers, all of whom were backed well be their friends and family. It’s such an amazing achievement, and one I feel helped Dad feel like he’d put something back after his own cancer battle.
Thanks also to those who donated shirts, who bought shirts and who gave generously for this great cause. You’ve all made a difference to someone, somewhere. They might not know it yet, but you have.
Who knows, we might even do it again next year!
