‘Ask You A Few Questions’ – Blackpool Boss Reflecting On Tuesday’s Draw

The Imps continued their unbeaten away run on Tuesday night with a 1-1 draw against Blackpool. Seasiders’ boss Steve Bruce had a lot of praise for the Imps post the dramatic ending, writes Kyle Fox.

City were not at their best on Tuesday evening until going 1-0 down and losing Adam Jackson to a red card. This saw a resurgence from City which ended in a late equaliser from birthday boy Tom Hamer.

Blackpool were on a great run of form in the run up to this match, winning four on the bounce including big wins over Huddersfield and Charlton. It was evident during the game on Tuesday night how they’d managed this good run of form. They were very well set up and attacked with intent, it was clear to see the improvement they’ve made already under the new manager.

It was a tough game for City. We couldn’t impose ourselves on the game up until the late knockings after the drama of the red card and Blackpool’s goal. After their goal, we managed to swing the game back in our favour which Blackpool struggled to deal with. Steve Bruce reflected on exactly that in his post-match interview.

“I thought we didn’t handle the last ten minutes or so well enough,” he told TangerineTV “We’ll absolutely learn from it. But it’s always disappointing when you concede so late on.”

“They’re (Lincoln City) a good side, very physical, ask you a few questions. They will undoubtedly be there or thereabouts I’m sure of that. The way they’ve performed.”

“We’ll look at the chances what we did have (in the first half) and even a couple in the second to put it to bed.”

“Tonight we’ve suffered from a little lack of concentration, haven’t dealt with the corner and they’ve managed to take a point away from us.”

“I felt it was the only real piece of quality we showed (Kyle Joseph’s goal) to break them down”

“They’re disappointed (Blackpool players), of course they are because we could’ve been quite easily five on the spin.”

In a similar fashion to Sean Maloney’s post-match interview last week, Bruce was quick to compliment us and was very fair in his assessment of the game. That’s always a nice thing to see with how some managers can react after a match. Especially one that ended in that fashion.

He was clearly pleased with his side’s performance, especially in the first half. But, disappointed with the last ten which makes sense. Blackpool capitalised on us going a man down by scoring a goal soon after. However, we then put them on the back foot by continuing to be aggressive in our play which they never really dealt with. They lost their organisation which is a big part of their game and didn’t to enough to combat us coming on to them. Especially with the extra man.

The reaction online from Blackpool fans overall was very similar to that of Steve Bruce. They were extremely disappointed to concede so late on and to not deal well enough with the ten men of Lincoln. But they were happy with the performance up until that point. This was a frustrating one for Tangerine fans.
