Zach Jeacock has joined Vanarama National League side Southend United on loan until January.
Jeacock joined the Imps from Birmingham City in the summer and has made four appearances, including two in League One, keeping a clean sheet against Wigan. He’s looked competent whenever called upon, and this loan will hopefully see him get plenty more first-team exposure.
City’s director of football Jez George said: “The plan when we signed Zach was always for him to go out on loan to get games. Through no fault of his own, this has been delayed three times due to an injury to Jamie Pardington in pre-season, George Wickens coming off with a head injury at Peterborough and then Zach himself having to go through a concussion protocol. We are delighted that Southend have waited for Zach and that he can finally get going to fight for a place in their starting XI.

“We have protection in this agreement to cover every possible scenario in our goalkeeping department for the duration of the loan so this is a win/win. Zach is an extremely talented young goalkeeper, who we signed as ‘one for the future’, and we look forward to monitoring his progress over the next three months before reviewing the situation in January. Southend United are a massive club at their level, with a big fanbase and high expectations, so it is a brilliant opportunity for Zach.”
Southend United were once opponents of ours in League One, but they’re now 17th in the National League. They sunk under the poisoned ownership of Ron Martin, who finally exited the club this summer.
Just 24 hours ago, manager Kevin Maher (part of their 2005 play-off winning side, boo) explained they were looking for a new keeper. They’ve only kept one clean sheet since beating Boston on August 20th, and the current incumbent of the number one jersey is 21-year-old Collin Andeng-Ndi. He was spotted playing for South Essex College by none other than Steve Tilson.
