Imps Injury News: Defender Nears Full Fitness, Captain May Miss Out

The Imps will play the waiting gamer this weekend, as injured players begin to come back to full fitness.

Some injured players, such as Adam Jackson, are getting close, but there’s still a huge question mark over some. Paudie O’Connor, injured during the draw at Exeter, is one supporters will be eager to see return, but he is described as ‘touch and go’.

“Paudie’s not trained yet, so he’s touch and go for the weekend,” said Michael Skubala in his pre-match interview. “We’ve still got to see how he gets on. If you can get through, that’s a dead leg; it’s a really bad dead leg. So it’s not a pull and a strain. Everyone, I think, thought it was a pull. It wasn’t. It’s a really, like, powerful, hard, hurt dead leg. So he’s still struggling with that.”

While Paudie is touch and go from an injury suffered with the Imps, Reeco Hackett is carrying a knock picked up on international duty. The Imps didn’t say much about us losing a key player during the international break, unlike some managers, but Hackett appeared for St Lucia on Friday as they were hammered 4-0 by Grenada. He missed their 4-1 defeat against Curaçao, but has come back with a knock.

“Also, we’ve got Reeco’s come back with a little bit of a strain. So again, another one that we’ve just got to manage. See if he’s he’s fit for the weekend.”

It’s not all bad news: Swedish import Erik Ring has returned after missing out on the matchday squad against Exeter. Ring, who bagged his first goal for the Imps in our last home league fixture, will be around the squad tomorrow.

“Eric’s back with his back in contention,” Michael said, as he moved on to the good news. “So that’s really good news for us. So he’s back quick and recovered from what he had.”

There’s another player close to a return, and one we really do need. Centre-back Adam Jackson has been out of action since being sent off at Blackpool on October 8th, but he’s now back around the squad. He won’t make this weekend, but he could feature as we travel to Wrexham on Tuesday.

“Then pretty much the rest is as is really Jacko. Very close, probably a bit too close on this one, but he’s very close. Maybe for Tuesday, maybe not. But if not Tuesday, hopefully Saturday for Jacko.”

Finally, the other central defender were missing, Tom Hamer, won’t be back until Christmas. Like Jaco, he’s bagged two goals, but went off injured after scoring against Northampton, and won’t be back until 2025.

“Then Hamer is obviously out until the new year.”

The Imps welcome table-topping Wycombe to Sincil Bank this weekend, a side with eight wins on the bounce (one of those in extra time against York City) and a team that hasn’t lost a game in the league since August 17th.
