The Imps’ U18 side will travel to Home Park later today, to face Plymouth Argyle in the FA Youth Cup fourth round.

A victory would see the young Imps secure a historic fifth-round appearance, a club record. Having despatched Wrexham in the last round, Plymouth wasn’t the tie many wanted, but it is a reasonable chance to progress.

Sam Tillen’s Thoughts

City head coach Sam Tillen emphasised the importance of preparation and the experience gained throughout the campaign.

“The lads have had a break from football as we haven’t had any games, but they’ve been working hard. They’ve come back in looking sharp. It’s been a great experience for us, especially with the challenges like long-distance travel and playing at Championship stadiums. Plymouth are a very good side, so we’re anticipating another tough challenge on Wednesday night.”

Denny Oliver’s Take

Midfielder Denny Oliver is confident in the team’s ability to rise to the occasion, focusing on making club history with a fifth-round appearance.

“We’ve had some really positive performances and good results. Plymouth are doing well in their division, and we’ll respect them, but we don’t fear anyone. Breaking the club record by reaching the fifth round is a big focus for the team.”

A Look at the Opposition

Plymouth Argyle’s U18 side, managed by Jamie Lowry, have been in impressive form, sitting second in the Youth Alliance South, just two points behind leaders Gillingham. They reached this stage with a dramatic extra-time win over Carlisle United, showcasing their resilience and determination.

Lowry is also wary of the Imps threat, telling Plymouth’s official site:

“It’ll be a really difficult game. They’re well set up, a good threat on the counter-attack, and they’ve got boys at the top that can really hurt you if we lose the ball and they turn it over. Defensively, they don’t give much away, so it’s going to be a difficult game.”

The game will take place at Home Park, with City donning their traditional red and white kit. Fans can watch the action live by purchasing an Argyle TV match pass for £2.50.
