Lincoln City News Updates: What Have We Missed?

It’s a busy time of year right now, and there’s often news or speculation which I don’t cover.

This could be for a number of reasons, such as dropping late on a match day or me thinking it’s just pointless to cover because it is internet speculation. However, there have been at least three news stories I have missed over the past couple of days (or even weeks), which I ought to cover.

Therefore, here is a little news roundup of bits I missed, and you might have too.

Saxon Earley Returns

Saxon Earley returned to Plymouth Argyle after limited game time here at Sincil Bank. It wasn’t really a huge surprise; he’d barely featured and was suspended for at least one of the games he would have played in the Vertu Trophy.

People will say Earley was a waste of money, but I disagree. It didn’t pan out, but when we signed him, Reeco Hackett was injured, Dylan Duffy was still looking at a possible gambling ban, and Dom Jeffries hadn’t appeared for us at left wing-back. We needed either a left centre-back to free Sean Roughan for the wing-back role or cover.

After signing, Reeco got fit, Dylan got off lightly, and that pushed Saxon down the pecking order. When a chance did come, he was either injured or suspended, and that was that.

Just think, if Reeco had got injured again like Tyler Walker, and Dylan had been banned for a period of time, we’d have needed Saxon. He was a safety net that, in the end, we didn’t deploy.

Bailey Cadamarteri is Going Nowhere

30 games, eight goals. It’s not a terrible haul, and he’s had to come off the bench in 13 of those matches, so there’s no doubt Bailey Cadamarteri is an asset. He might have been injured this weekend, but the news slipped through that the period in which Sheffield Wednesday can recall him has now passed. That means four more months of the young striker, possibly playing off James Collins, possibly coming on to big effect late in games.

This is good news (not if you want to stand up at away games, but that’s another issue) for the club. Bailey is a lively striker, and him remaining here means we have five to pick from, giving us good cover in the event of injury. It’s always hard to fully assess a loan before it ends, but my guess is Bailey leaves us with 13 or 14 goals for the season, and that’s a good return for a loan player. Let’s just hope he gets fit quickly.

City Linked With Charlie Warren

I do love this time of year, because we inevitably find out about new players. Charlie Warren is one, a striker playing for Felixstowe and Walton (that’s one club, just in case you thought he was splitting his time). Apparently, we’re interested, as are Coventry City and Wycombe Wanderers.

The youngster does look to be a big prospect – he has 26 goals and 20 assists for the Isthmian League North Division leaders this campaign already. He is left-footed and can operate on either flank or run from midfield. He’s the sort of player I’d expect a League One club to be looking at, so I won’t rule it out. That said, speaking of ‘rules’, this does conform to the rule of three, which I have discussed before. Three clubs linked usually means agent speculation (which I’d assume as Football League World is a reputable site with proper sources), or it suggests a made-up story.
