After an away victory in Northampton, City will be hoping to pick up another three points in the league when they face Peterborough United at Sincil Bank.

Peterborough United Form
Following a 2-1 aggregate defeat to eventual promotion winners Oxford United in the playoffs semi-finals last year, Peterborough United were, quite literally, stripped of all their assets. Posh hare run with a priority is profit-based model, with the club receiving multi-million-pound fees for five players over the last five years. Some of these names include Sammie Szmodics, Siriki Dembele and even Ivan Toney. The loss of their captain Harrison Burrows and wonderkid Ronnie Edwards in the summer has inevitably hit Peterborough hard, but you would think that after receiving a combined £6.3 million for the pair, the Posh would have reinvested and be high sky in the table, but unfortunately for them, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
26 games into the League One season, Peterborough sit 19th in the table, six points away from the relegation zone. No-one in the league have conceded more than the Cambridgeshire outfit, which has been the real issue that has faced them this season.

The Posh had a fairly decent start to the season, with their only two losses in the opening five games coming to promotion contenders Wrexham and Huddersfield. Peterborough picked up five points from the next nine available in the league, which was then followed by a run of only one win in five games, seeing them sit 15th in the table after sixteen games.
Recently, Peterborough has drawn three of their last four league games, with one loss. A 2-2 draw against bottom team Burton on New Year’s Day was followed by a narrow defeat to Wrexham at the Racecourse ground. Two home draws against Leyton Orient and Exeter have kept them at 19th place in the League One table.
Posh’s bad form presents a perfect opportunity for the Imps to beat their local rivals for the first time in over five years, in a game that could hopefully ignite some good Lincoln City form.

Peterborough Tactics
Peterborough United, under Darren Ferguson, aspires to play attack-minded, purposeful football, utilizing the space on the pitch to play through, round or over opponents. Out of possession, their preference is to press from the front and win the ball back in high areas of the pitch. The problem with this however, is that if your press doesn’t have its desired effect, you are left vulnerable in defence, and you concede a lot of goals.
Posh setup in a 4-2-3-1 system, with the idea of creating lots of attacking overloads. Gustav Lindgren, who was signed from Sweeden last week, is likely to start up front, with an attacking three of Malik Mothersille, Cian Hayes and Ryan De Havilland slotting in just behind them. Hector Kyprianou and Archie Collins act as a double pivot at the base of Posh’s midfield. Lastly, Peterborough have a defence that includes former Imp Tayo Edun and Sam Hughes. One thing is for sure though, Peterborough do often get exposed at the back, so if clinical enough, the Imps will have a good shot at winning this game of football.

Previous Meetings
City are winless across each of their last seven league games against Peterborough United, their longest ever such run against the Posh in the Football League. Our visitors tomorrow however have won just one of their last six away league games against Lincoln, but are unbeaten in their last three visits to Sincil Bank.
The Imps and the Posh drew 1-1 back at London Road this season, which was the first time we came away with something from their home ground since the infamous 3-3 draw in the 20/21 campaign. The last time City triumphed over Peterborough was on New Year’s Day in 2020, here’s hoping the outcome is the same today!
