A win is a win, but a 4-1 win, when you’ve been under pressure is a huge relief.
Every Imps fan, whether pro-Skubala, anti-Jez or whatever, will have been delighted to come away with four goals and a resounding victory on Tuesday night. When conditions are right, we are a good football team and Mansfield, Crawley and Peterborough all know that well.

Dom Jeffries was the Man of the Match for many, but on the other flank, Jovon Makama caught the eye once again. He’s shifted out wide recently and seems to be benefitting from it, and in his pre-match interview ahead of the Birmingham City game, Michael Skubala was quick to point that out.
“I think everybody at the club knows what Jovon’s potential is, and I’ve said what Jovon’s potential is,” said the Head Coach.
“His challenge now is exactly what you say—to go out and do it consistently. He’s got pace, power, and he can excite people and get past people.”

Jovon has four league goals and five assists, with a further four goals coming in cup competitions, and his threat has been evident for much of the season. However, that number could be higher after he missed good chances in key games, and it’s the consistency, in front of goal and on the ball, which Michael is eager to tease out of our young talent.
“Using him a little bit wider in the wide areas at times has really helped him, and other times he hasn’t looked the part we wanted him to look.
“That’s partly on him to go and show his consistency in what he can do. I thought again, he was very, very good on Tuesday night and caused some real problems.”

Makama is committed to the Imps until the summer of 2027 and has been one of the season’s breakout stars. Regarded by many as a fringe player 12 months ago, he’s developing into an exciting talent, reportedly on the radar of clubs higher up the EFL.
The impression he is making is likely only to continue as he performs well out wide, a position he first impressed in agaisnt Reading just before Christmas.
