Jovon Makama has been named the best player in Sky Bet League One for March after an impressive month which saw him score five goals and create three more.
This is the news I’ve always wanted to write. How big is this, honestly? A youth product coming through the ranks like he has, to win a monthly award.
The highlight for the 21-year-old Academy graduate was his eye-catching hat-trick against Bristol Rovers – his first senior treble. It was the first treble for an academy graduate since Mick Harford in the early eighties, a day Jovon will never forget.
He said: “Scoring my first professional hat-trick was a moment I’ll never forget and felt that bit more special having played for this club since I was 16. This is a club where they’re willing to put their trust in young players.
“The reception fans gave me when I came off was incredible. The feeling you get when you’ve got the players, staff and fans all congratulating you is amazing and it’s a day I’ll always remember. My family were there as well, and they’ve played a huge role in helping me get to this stage in my career.
“I’m playing with confidence and know that every time I go out there on the pitch I’m able to make a real difference and help Lincoln City win games of football.”

Jovon’s talent has always been bubbling away, but since Christmas he’s converted to a wide forward and, at times, has been unplayable. He’s caught the eye of the first-team squad, and now he’s making news across the division.
Head coach Michael Skubala added: “I’ve seen the talent Jovon has since the day I came into the club, and he’s now a real force in games. His physicality and power is magnificent and he was unplayable at times last month – but the crazy thing is he can still improve and his challenge is to maintain this standard on a consistent basis.”
Congratulations, Jovon, to everyone at The Stacey West.
