Sunderland Eyeing Swoop For Imps Talent

Imps youth goalkeeper Isaac Allan is currently on trial at Sunderland AFC, according to a report from the Sunderland Echo.

The Championship club are casting their eye over the talented 17-year-old, who has impressed in the Imps’ youth ranks this season. The Black Cats are well-known for their development of young players and routinely scout prospects from outside their own academy.

This time of year often sees academies ramp up recruitment ahead of the new season, as we’ve seen in the case of Zane Okoro and Bournemouth. It’s a time where trials are taking place and new contracts being offered to selected scholars.

Sunderland, like many others, are shaping their youth squads and have identified Allan as a potential addition.

Isaac Allan First Team Exposure

Allan’s journey to City has been interesting. Born on the Isle of Man he attended UK Football Trials in an effort to get noticed. His performances there earned interest from several clubs, including trials with Sheffield United and with the Imps, who eventually offered him a place in the academy.

Since then, the teenager has gone on to play a central role in Lincoln’s U18 side, particularly in FA Youth Cup campaigns, while also edging closer to senior football. He was named on the bench for the 5-0 win over Bristol Rovers in March 2024 and previously featured in the debacle at Chippenham Town in 2022.

Training With Sunderland

Now, it is reported Allan is currently training with Sunderland’s U18 group under Fin Lynch and Jordan Moore, and he is expected to feature in their game against Wolves today. The trial could be a stepping stone towards a full-time move to the Academy of Light, depending on how he fares during the spell.

It’s believed the Imps could also offer the 17-year-old a professional deal, but trials such as this are not uncommon. Given Sunderland’s proven track record in developing youth talent — and the platform they offer — a move could be an attractive proposition for the young goalkeeper.
